Vessels crafted for adventure
Abitibi & Co, a Rouyn-Noranda company manufacturing canoes and kayaks by hand, was born in 2014. The manufacturer has been experiencing strong growth. The founders Guillaume and Jean-Daniel wanted to develop products around values based on local purchasing and sustainable development. All this without neglecting aesthetics and design. For them, Abitibi & Co is a way of life more than just a business.
Abitibi & co. wants to bring everyone out on the watercourse, but also wants to make sure to protect and rebuild the affected natural environments. They do their best to minimize their impact on the environment through sustainable business practices by making all their canoes and kayaks locally. They use sustainable and environmentally friendly materials and intend to use their business as leverage to bring about a positive effect, both in the community and on the planet.
'' Trace our own course, go upstream, paddle towards the unknown. ''
Since the launch of production in January 2015, the company has grown and now has 22 people on its team to intervene at each of the 60 stages of kayaking. The canoe requires 12 to 16 stages, the equivalent of 10 hours of work, from design to final touches.
